14th Annual RC and Moon Pie Festival
Saturday June 21, 2008

This year’s 14th annual festival will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008.  The day will begin with 1,000 runners taking part in the 13th annual RC-Moon Pie 10 Mile Run.  The grueling course is both a challenge and delight for runners aging from 10 to the over 70’s crowd.  The festival continues with games, contests, cloggers, Country music and bluegrass, and over 50 arts and crafts booths not to mention the dozens of food booths featuring Southern fares such as Tennessee Smoked Barbecue, hand squeezed lemonade and deep fried Moon Pies!  Pomp and circumstance reign with the coronation of the King and Queen Coronation.  The 2008 Queen is Dr. Phyllis Qualls-Brook, Assistant Commissioner of Tennessee Community and Industry Relations and the King is actor/director Lane Davies who will be directing the 1st Annual Tennessee Shakespeare Festival to be held in Bell Buckle the two weekends following the RC-Moon Pie Festival.

Taking center stage as always is the wildly popular Synchronized Wading extravaganza, lovingly referred to as “dry humor on a wet stage”.  This year’s performance will be “A Midsummer’s Nightmare” starring who else but the lovely little Moon Pie and the charming RC with unfortunate guest appearances by GooGoo Cluster, Coke, as well as a host of fairies and soldiers.  Director and choreographer Carla Webb who is also known as the First Lady of Bell Buckle says that this year’s Synchronized Wading performance is one of the best since she began performing in a kiddy pool over 13 years ago.

The perfect ending to the day is the cutting of the World’s Largest Moon Pie – free dessert for all! In Bell Buckle, when they say “let them eat cake” they really mean it and serve it to you with a gooey smile!

A day of fun for young and old celebrating THREE southern traditions: RC Colas, Moon Pies and Historic Bell Buckle, Tennessee- where we are 100 years behind the times and proud of it!
